We Waited for a Voice That Never Came
I tried to shake his hand but he wouldn’t come closer
The sky was deeper than the sea
We found the end of a promise
The books remembered how to be birds
The safest place to disappear
They swam where the stars should be
What is there to celebrate
Something softened in the noise
The sky reached out for us
The cloud wouldn’t leave
The room had too many eyes
We listened to the Light
my boots didn’t belong on this pavement
The balloon hasn’t moved in days
I left the light on for us
We watched the noise together
I found a friend in the dark
